Expressive fusion project developed by Montse Scintilla and Jesús Alvira from the summer of 2022.

From the meeting with Montse and her work, especially with the series of illustrations (present at the entrance of the gallery) that narrate her peculiar life transit, arises the need to give life, movement and voice to this unique story This is where the short animation was born that gathers the essence of everyone's expressive world. The short, a making of Montse's work and some of my microfilms, you can see in the loop projection in the shop window.

During the gestation of the short and as a result of a fertile creative attunement, we consider the dual exhibition you are visiting. Montse's current artistic period coexists with the result of my personal evolution as a photographer.

In a world saturated with prodigious cameras in the hands of millions of people unaware of their own work and generating billions of images daily (some with very high photographic quality), I consider it my duty to look for a new path of my own, capable of to express my concerns in another way: giving not one, but several or many? jumps, sometimes fatal, in my journey towards the abstract, the indefinable.

The word twilight “defines” the moment when “undefinedness” takes over the shadows and lights to create a fleeting and intangible moment. This would be the fuzzy idea, infinite, in the literal sense, without terms, which has guided me in the research and editing of my photographs. Now is the moment of truth. I leave them before you.

Only the watching eyes will see. Only the ears of the listener will hear. Only the senses of the one who surrenders to the experience will feel.

Jesus Alvira

A sequence of drawings in Chinese ink and graphite rest in a drawer. Simple but with a significant charge for me.

They represent the process of relocating me and my sister after going through an ongoing grief. A loss that happened on another plane, since when one was alive I wasn't born yet, and when I was born, she was dead. But the loss and the bond continued to beat internally.

Jesus visits my workshop. I show him these drawings almost at random, and he feels the impulse to animate the sequence. The transformation of what was in the drawer begins, the spots and lines are set in motion, and I open myself up to give space to include another look, I release what was "mine" so that it can be "ours". From this co-creation process, the short animation emerges, a new dimension that goes beyond the primary meaning.

And in this new dimension, new connections and provocations arise that arouse my interest to explore beyond what I had done until then.

The images come out of the drawer and expand and the space is filled with lights and shadows, dances and mirrors, sensations and whispers coming from deep inside.

The works in this exhibition are the result of the search to visually convey the sensations and emotions of this personal transit. Which at the same time is universal, since they speak and awaken memories of duality, loss, separation, illness, changes of course or a brave decision.
